My name is Thurmananthalas Greymantle. Yes, it's pronounced thur-man-AN-tha-lass. Grey-man-tle. You got it. Yes, it's an odd name for a gnome. It's not really polite to ask, as it's a rather personal story.

I'm a scholar. Any kind of knowledge, really. But my area of specialty is history, especially of the Vast. I've been here in Ravens Bluff for four years now, and it's the most dangerous place I've lived. Eh? I'm from the Dales originally, and I've been all over Faerun at one time or another, even to Waterdeep. That's quite a journey.

Adventuring and saving Ravens Bluff is the most lucrative thing I do, although I'm not all that excited about the messier aspects of it. I do manage to find interesting tomes from it, though. A couple years ago, I found myself in Sarbreenar, the abandoned dwarven city beneath Ravens Bluff, and retrieved some books on its history. Of course, the most interesting experience I've had, related to history, of course, was when the Clerical Circle's high priests and the Chronomancer Clemmen sent a strike force back in time to rescue some dwarven refugees from the fall of the Realm of Glimmering Swords, over seven centuries ago. Obviously, the Clerical Circle knew what they were doing in chosing this strike force, as both myself and the Wizard Gluteus Maximus were experts on the period. (While I am not the most imposing figure in combat, Gluteus and his two children were quite formidable.) We successfully rescued many dwarves, including my protege, Cleossandra Copperfield. She's a gold mine of information about the period, and I should have enough material for a book of my own on the subject soon.

When I'm not adventuring, I provide a couple of different services for the people of the city. First, I can be a tutor, either on history or basic skills like reading and writing, or drawing. Second, I can identify magic items, a popular service for the adventurers in the city. Finally, I can do translations of foreign books into the common tongue of Faerun.
